GALOIS HEXAGON

These set of pictures display a compliant mechanism called a Galois Hexagon. The first two pictures are a top and side view of an array of Galois Hexagons that were laser cut from a DXF file, and the third view is the DXF file. The purpose of creating an array of compliant mechanisms was to see how this would affect the properties of the hexagon. The Galois Hexagon by itself (pictures 4-6) demonstrated how someone can use symmetry and kinematics to analyze the affects of forces such as pushing or pulling, and using those observed results to create more compliant mechanisms. Ultimately, these compliant mechanisms, once perfected, will serve the purpose of replacing regular objects for alternative purposes. In the case of a Galois Hexagon, an array of these objects could create a flexible wall.
